Planting a Butterfly Waystation, with ORCA

Sunday, June 1st, 2014
1:30 to 3:00 pm

Meet at Riverdale Park and Zoo Frizbee Golf Course parking lot on Water street at University Heights Blvd. (north of Riverdale Park and Zoo main entrance… see map below!)

Come on out, Juniors, and learn about butterflies, their habitat requirements, and how to plant a butterfly’s favourite food source.

We’re planting a “Butterfly Waystation” to provide food and habitat for local butterflies.

The event will take place from 1:30-3:00PM on Sunday June 1. Meet at the Riverview Park and Zoo Frisbee Golf course parking lot located at the Water Street/University Heights Blvd. intersection.

The planting area is located beside a stormwater management pond, so we will also be discussing stormwater and its impacts on habitat, water quality and our local environment.

Meredith Carter and Erin McGauley from Otonabee Region Conservation Authority (ORCA) will lead the fun with help from Krista Macklin from the Riverview Park and Zoo.

ORCA will bring all of the required equipment, so participants just need to bring themselves, closed toed footwear (boots or sneakers) and some water to drink.

Sorry about any confusion to our member folks who read the orchid article. The orchid is wrong… the accurate news and events, down to the minute is right here, on our website.

In fairness, the Orchid WAS right back when it was published 😉

It’s just that the event info since changed. Hope we see some people out this fine weekend! ORCA, the Zoo, and the PFN are all gathering in one place… maybe we’ll even get in a few games of frizz after the planting.
