Piping Plover 2018 Call for Volunteer Guardians

My name is Allison Slater. I am the Piping Plover Biologist and Volunteer Coordinator for Ontario Parks Southeast Zone.

We have started to see the arrival of Piping Plovers at Darlington and Presqu’ile Provincial Parks and are hopeful to spot them at nearby beaches in the coming weeks. I am currently looking for conservation enthusiasts interested in becoming Volunteer Piping Plover Guardians for the 2018 breeding season. Volunteers will be acting as citizen scientists to collect information about the chicks and breeding behaviours that will help inform future conservation efforts. In addition, Volunteer Guardians will participate in ensuring adults, chicks, and eggs are safe, monitoring breeding progression, as well as, engaging and educating the public on Piping Plover conservation efforts.

Those interested in volunteering can contact me at allisone.slater@ontario.ca for more information and to be added to future mailing lists. If you could pass this on to interested persons, post information on your site and social media, or send out a mass email to your network, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Allison
